PAST RESURRECTION

LESSON V  –  PAST RESURRECTION

I.     THREE KINDS OF RESURRECTION

  1. PAST RESURRECTION   -   refers to the bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead.

  1. PRESENT RESURRECTION   -   happens when an unbeliever (who is spiritually dead) comes alive as he receives eternal life.  This is happening now.  We will discuss this in the next lesson.

  1. FUTURE RESURRECTION   -   will happen when all people, good or evil, will be bodily resurrected.  We will study this in future lessons.

II.     THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

  1. JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN FROM THE DEAD (1 Cor. 15:20 and Rev. 1:18)

  1. MIRACLES HAPPEN AS PEOPLE BELIEVE IN THE RISEN CHRIST

(Acts 3:1-8, 14-16; 8:4-8; 9:33-35; 16:18)

 1.   Personal experiences of miracles that occurred as we used the resurrection included many bodies of the saints” buried in Jerusalem.

 2.   So, Christ’s resurrection is called the FIRST FRUITS (plural).  (1 Cor. 15:20)   First fruits means the fruit of, let us say, oranges that ripen ahead of the rest.  If there are first fruits, then the rest of the fruits will follow.

 3.  Therefore, Christ’s resurrection as FIRST FRUITS would mean that there are other

resurrections that will follow.  We will study this in the Future Resurrection.

III.     CHRIST’S PHYSICAL BODY AFTER HIS RESURRECTION

  1. The believer’s body will be transformed like the glorious resurrected body of Jesus.   (Phil. 3:20-21)

  1. Characteristics of Christ’s resurrected body:

  1. It has flesh and bones.  (Luke 24:39)   Therefore, it can be touched.  Jesus said: “Handle Me.” (Luke 24:39)

  1. It can appear and disappear at His will.  (Luke 24:15, 31)

  1. It can eat solid food.  (Luke 24:41-43)

  1. It can fly at tremendous speed.  (Acts 1:9)

  1. It can pass through solid objects.  (John 20:19)

  1. It carries the scars of His wounds.  (John 20:24-29) These are proofs of His love for us.

IV.     SIGNIFICANCE OF CHRIST’S RESURRECTION

  1. JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN  (John 14:6)

  1. BELIEVERS ARE JUSTIFIED  (Rom. 4:25 )   To justify means to declare righteousness, just as if I never sinned.

  1. VICTORY OVER DEATH  (Rom. 6:9)   Jesus holds the key of death.  (Rev. 1:18)

  1. HEALING IN THE NAME OF JESUS  (Mark 16:17-18)

After Jesus’ resurrection, He told His disciples to use His name in healing the sick and casting out demons.  There is resurrection power in Jesus ‘ Name.

  1. COMPLETE SALVATION IN JESUS (Heb. 7:25)

This salvation includes:

    1. Salvation from the PENALTY of sin (Rev. 20:15)
    2. Salvation from the EFFECT of sin (Rom. 5:10)
    3. Salvation from the POWER of sin (Col. 1:13)
    4. VICTORY in his life (Rom. 5:17, 8:37)
