PRESENT RESURRECTION

LESSON VI  –  PRESENT RESURRECTION

I.    MAN IS COMPOSED OF THREE PARTS   (1 Thess. 5:23)

  1. THE BODY

Our body has five senses (touch, sight, feeling, smell, and hearing).  Through our senses we contact or are able to know the physical world.

  1. THE SOUL

It has three functions or work, namely:

  1. Thinking    –  our mind, which is part of our soul, does the thinking and imagining.

  1. Deciding    –  our will, which is also part of our soul, does the decision making.  Our will is free.

  1. Emotion    –  From our emotion comes all kinds of feelings like love, anger, jealousy, etc.

  1. THE SPIRIT

It is in our human spirit that we can contact the spirit world.  When a person becomes a Christian, God lives in his spirit (Eph. 3:17).  The spirit is also the seat of our conscience and intuition.

II.    MAN IS SPIRITUALLY DEAD  (Eph. 2:1)

The word “dead” means separated.  Man is separated from God because of his sins.

  1. Jesus came to give life  to man.   (John 10:10)   This life is the very Eternal Life of God.   (1 John 5:11-13)

  1. Receive Jesus and you receive eternal life.    (1 John 5:11-13)

  1. Your spirit is made alive or resurrected when you receive Jesus.    (Eph. 2:1, 4-6)

III.    GOD THE FATHER PUTS THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST    (2 Cor. 5:17; 1 Cor. 1:30)

  1. Because the believer is in Christ, whatever happened to Christ has likewise happened to the believer.   (Rom. 6:3-4, 6, 11)

1.   The believer  DIED  with Christ;

2.   The believer was  BURIED  with Christ; and

3.   The believer  ROSE  with Christ to a new life.

  1. To experience the above facts in the Word, the believer must:

1.   Confess the Word     (Rom. 10:10)

2.   Disregard feelings and obey the Word     (Matt. 7:24)

IV.    EVIDENCE OF PRESENT RESURRECTION

  1. NEW LIFE     (2 Cor. 5:17; 1 John 5:11-12 and Rom. 6:6, 11)

God puts the believer in Christ and because of this, the facts mentioned above will happen to the believer.  The believer has a new life, the very eternal life of Christ.

  1. NEW PURPOSE     (Col. 3:1-3 and Matt. 6:33)

The new purpose of the believer is to:

  • seek those things which are above, where Christ is

  • seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness

  1. NEW MASTER

1. The believer was transferred from the kingdom of darkness (where Satan is master) into the kingdom of His Son.    (Col. 1:13)

2. The believer’s new Master is Jesus.    (2 Cor. 5:15)

3. God “has delivered us (believers) from the power of darkness.  (Col. 1:13)   This means that sin or darkness has no longer any hold over us.  We are delivered or set free from sin! We can live a life of victory over sin.  We “reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.(Rom. 5:17.)

V.    THE BELIEVER IS CHANGED FROM GLORY TO GLORY    (2 Cor. 3:18)

       A.     BY THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD.   HowAs we grow spiritually.

       B. WHEN WE BEHOLD THE LORD “WITH AN UNVEILED FACE.”

1.     Unveiled face means with no mask.  This means turning to the Lord.  (2 Cor. 3:16)

To turn to the Lord means to make Jesus the Lord:

a.   DAILY;  and

b.   IN EVERY AREA AND CIRCUMSTANCE OF OUR LIFE.

        2.    TO MAKE JESUS THE LORD SIMPLY MEANS TO OBEY HIM.
